Bible Basics About Hell
HELL IS DESCRIBED AS:
FURNACE OF FIRE: Matthew 13:40-42
“As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of Man shall send forth His angels, and they shall gather out of His Kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
EVERLASTING FIRE: Matthew 25:41
“Then shall He (Jesus, the King) say also unto the on the left hand, ‘Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.’
EVERLASTING PUNISHMENT: Matthew 25:46
“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment; but the righteous into life eternal.”
EVERLASTING DESTRUCTION: II Thessalonians 1:7-9
“…the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming vengeance on them that know not God, and that do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power.”
LAKE OF FIRE:
“And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.:
“But the fearful. and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Hell is a real place of real torment that lasts forever! It is a place where the pain of burning never, never, never stops.
HELL IS PREPARED FOR:
The workers of iniquity – Matthew 13:41-42
The devil and his angels – Matthew 25:41
The rejectors of the gospel – II Thessalonians 1:9
The beast and the false prophet – Revelation 19:20
The unbelieving and wicked – Revelation 21:8
THE EXAMPLE OF HELL JESUS TAUGHT US (Luke 16:19-31) AND THE LESSONS WE CAN LEARN FROM IT:
There is life after death for either reward or punishment.
Hell is a real place.
The purpose of hell is punishment.
The punishment is the conscious experience of real, agonizing pain.
Part of the pain comes from feeling extremely parched and thirsty.
A flame like a blast furnace burns all around you.
There is nothing to be comforted with.
There is no way to ease the pain.
It is an isolated, lonely place.
There is no one who can help you.
Once in hell, there is no way out.
There is no second chance to make your life right with God.
The people in hell believe in evangelism and church visitation programs.
The people in hell do not want their family members and friends to join them.
The people in hell know the message of the Bible is true.
The dead cannot communicate with the living.
The only time you can believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved from eternal punishment in hell is right now while you are still alive on earth.
HOW TO BELIEVE AND BE SAVED
Realize you are not god and that you are powerless to achieve God’s favor, earn His forgiveness, or live up to His standards. Rom. 3:23
Believe that Jesus Christ is God, that He died on the cross for your sins, and that He rose from the dead and is alive right now to hear and help you as only He can. John 10:30; 14:6; Acts 16:31; Romans 10:9-10; I John 4:9-10
In prayer, turn your life and will over to the care and control of the Lord Jesus Christ. Ask Him to be the forgiver and leader of your life and allow Him to work in and through you from this day forward. John 1:12; Galatians 2:20
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am sinful and need Your forgiveness. I believe you died to pay the penalty for my sin and rebellion against God. I want to turn from all my sin and follow You instead. Please have mercy on me and forgive me of all my sins. Please come into my heart and life and make me to be the person of God You want me to be. I turn my whole life over to Your care and control today and for eternity. Amen
